The Municipality of The Hague and Joop van den Ende Producties signed an agreement to work together over the coming year on the musical ‘Mary Poppins’ in the Fortis Circustheater Scheveningen. Deputy Mayor Frits Huffnagel and Erwin van Lambaart, general director of Joop van den Ende Theaterproducties, presented this unique cooperation agreement on 10 February together with the cast of Mary Poppins.

‘Mary Poppins’ will be performed exclusively at the Circustheater in The Hague starting 27 March. The agreement covers the development of joint activities in order to encourage theatregoers to see more of The Hague while they are here.

According to Deputy Mayor Frits Huffnagel (City Marketing), ‘The musicals in the Circustheater attract some 700,000 visitors a year, making the theatre one of the biggest crowd-pullers in The Hague. This joint cooperation is meant to encourage members of the audience to see more of the city - Scheveningen as well as the beautiful city centre.’

Den Haag Marketing (The Hague Convention & Visitors Bureau) will be offering more tourist arrangements, and audience members will be given good information about The Hague when they collect their tickets.

According to Erwin van Lambaart: ‘We’ve felt very welcome in this city ever since Joop van den Ende started out here about 20 years ago. Musicals have become hugely popular since then and are now one of the most popular art forms in the Netherlands.’

The musical ‘Mary Poppins’ from Disney and Cameron Mackintosh is based on the successful Walt Disney film and the stories by P.L. Travers. The production was adapted specially for the Fortis Circustheater, making it unique in the world.
