The Hague showed a rise in the number of meetings and conventions held in the city in 2010. This put The Hague in a shared second place together with Rotterdam.
The growth in the number of meetings and conventions proves that The Hague is a popular meeting location and is the result of the collaboration within SIC (Samenwerkingsverband Internationale Congresacquisitie). Partners in the SIC include the Municipality of The Hague, Chamber of Commerce, World Forum, hotels and The Hague Convention & Visitors Bureau (Den Haag Marketing).
In 2010 The Hague played host to large conventions such as the 9th World Congress for Nurse Anesthetists (WCNA) with 2,000 participants in the World Forum.
As the international city of peace and justice, The Hague was able to welcome meetings in this area. Examples include the 74th Conference of the International Law Association (ILA) with 800 visitors at The Hague University and the 15th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) with 355 attendees in the Steigenberger Kurhaus Hotel. Some 500 visitors attended the 10th ICN Annual Conference of the Netherlands Competition Authority in May in the World Forum.
Amsterdam was the most popular city in the Netherlands for meetings and conventions, followed by Rotterdam and The Hague in a shared second place. Maastricht took third place. The international ranking is made annually using statistics from the International Congress & Convention Association.
