Subsidy for liveability and resident participation

Published: 12 September 2011 Modified: 13 October 2011

Do you have an idea which could improve the liveability in your city district or the well-being in your neighbourhood? Then you can apply for a subsidy in your city district.

What is it?

The Hague’s eight city districts all have a district plan. The plan contains the district’s ambitions in the area of liveability and well-being.

The liveability of the city indicates how pleasant it is to live and work there. Examples include green areas in the city, the maintenance of public space and playground equipment. And well-being refers to how well people are able to function so that they can play a productive role in society.

Do you have an idea which can contribute towards the municipality’s ambitions in terms of liveability and well-being? The city district can provide financial support for your idea.

What are the conditions?

Everyone can apply for a subsidy. However, your application must meet a number of requirements. The most important ones are:

  • Your idea is meant specifically for the city district in which you are applying for the subsidy.
  • The subsidy is meant for a one-off project or event.
  • Your idea should fit in with the ambitions of the city district plan.
  • The subsidy is meant for ideas in the areas of participation, liveability, well-being, youth and culture.
  • The municipality can only pay the subsidy to a legal entity, for example a residents association. If you apply as an individual, the city district can help you find an appropriate legal entity with whom you can team up.
  • You need to include a plan and a detailed budget with your application.
  • Your idea or project must be carried out or completed in the year you submit your application.
  • You cannot apply for a subsidy to compensate volunteer work or refreshments.
  • If you’re applying for a subsidy for an event or activity, then it needs to be open to the public.

Is your event is taking place on a street or public area or does part of a street need to be closed off for your event? Don’t forget to apply for an event permit. You can do this via Vergunning kleine evenementen.

How long does it take?

You will receive acknowledgment of your application within five working days. The city district will take a decision to grant or reject your subsidy application within six weeks.
