Settling in The Hague from abroad

Staying in The Hague for longer

Anyone from another country who comes to live in The Hague for longer than 4 months is required to register with the Municipal Personal Records Database (Gemeentelijke Basisadministratie persoonsgegevens or GBA). The procedure to be followed will depend on each situation. The following section provides further information about the various procedures.

Are you coming from abroad to live in The Hague? Or had you been registered with the GBA in the Netherlands in the past? Then you need to register with the Municipal Personal Records Database (GBA).

See which one of the following situations applies to you.

For people coming from outside the EU or EEA and for partners/spouses of people with an EU/EEA or Swiss nationality.

For people coming from an EU/EEA country.

Are you employed in the Netherlands as a diplomat or consular officer? Or do you work for an international organisation? Then you have special residence status.

Also for Dutch nationals from the Caribbean Netherlands.

For people with a valid W-card or residence permit.

Are you working in the Netherlands as an expat or highly-skilled migrant (kennismigrant)? You are entitled to a special residency status.

Reregister with the GBA.

People who come to live in The Hague for longer than 4 months are required to report to the Immigration Office.
