Mayor Jozias van Aartsen of The Hague presented six scholarships to the Indian minister for human resource development, Dr. Daggubati Purandeswari, on 8 December in New Delhi.
The scholarships will allow six top students to study at the summer school of The Hague Academy of International Law in the Peace Palace. During this course, students from all over the world are taught by renowned professors in the field of international law. Many participants in this summer school later get influential positions at international organisations and their country’s foreign service.
One of the major reasons for the trip was the special relationship between India and The Hague. More than 10% of The Hague’s residents can trace their roots back to India. The mayor was also promoting The Hague as the International City of Peace and Justice.
