With the sun shining down on us more often, Scheveningen is ready for the summer! The sand sculptures have now been completed on the beach and boulevard, and all the popular beach pavilions are again open for business.
Just before the crowds took to the streets of The Hague’s city centre for KoninginneNach, the 2010 beach season was officially opened at the end of April by Deputy Mayor Sander Dekker (Education, Youth and Sport) and Deputy Mayor Frits Huffnagel (City Marketing).
The International Sand Sculpture Festival, which is being held from 29 April to 28 June on the beach of Scheveningen, is kicking off the summer. In addition to metres-high sculptures on the boulevard, there are a number of smaller sculptures displayed on the decks of various beach pavilions. The theme of this year’s festival is professional sport in The Hague. The theme is quite fitting as The Hague was chosen as the number one municipality in the Netherlands for professional sports for 2009.
