Your household waste is collected and processed in a number of separate streams. This is possible only if you pre-separate your waste before you throw it away or submit it for recycling.
In many areas of The Hague, a free service is available for the disposal of your organic waste (Groente-, Fruit- en Tuinafval or GFT); however, you must subscribe to this special GFT service. In other areas of the city, organic waste is collected every week without a subscription.
Household waste (restafval) and organic waste (GFT) are collected once a week door to door. Glass, paper and clothing/textiles can be deposited in special containers in your neighbourhood. Other types of waste (oversized household waste, domestic chemical waste etc.) can be brought to one of the city's three garbage and recycling stations.
You can also make an appointment to have your oversized household waste (grofvuil) collected at your home by phoning the Grofvuiltelefoon at tel. 070 - 366 0808.
