Registration procedures for Dutch citizens coming from abroad

Are you a Dutch citizen and will you be staying in The Hague for longer than 4 months? Then you need to register with the GBA.

What is it?

Are you a Dutch citizen and will you be staying in The Hague for longer than 4 months? Then you need to register in the Municipal Personal Records Database (GBA). This is required by law.

What are the conditions?

  • You are a Dutch citizen.
  • You will be staying in The Hague for longer than 4 months.

For whom is it intended?

Dutch citizens coming from abroad (including Aruba, Curaçao and Sint-Maarten and the municipalities of Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius).

What will I need?

  • Valid proof of identity. Please note: A driving licence will not be accepted as valid identification.
  • Proof of Occupancy.
  • A recently-issued original birth certificate. A recent, original marriage certificate (if applicable). These documents will be reviewed while you wait.
  • In the case of Antilleans and Arubans: an original deregistration certificate.

Legalisation

Documents from certain countries must be legalised or provided with an apostille stamp. More information on this topic is available on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Translations

Documents from abroad which are not written in Dutch, French, German or English must be translated into Dutch by a sworn translator in the Netherlands.

The municipality will verify the authenticity of your identity documents.

This service is provided free of charge.

How long will it take?

Your GBA registration will be processed within 4 weeks.

How do I apply/What do I need to do?

To register, visit the Immigration Office at Stadhoudersplantsoen 24 in person. Opening hours are 8.00 to 14.00 hrs. Monday to Friday.

Do your family members need to register, too? Then they need to come along as well.
