The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) organisation is responsible for the implementation of the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention, the fastest growing disarmament treaty in history.
As we speak the Convention has been ratified by 188 member states. OPCW has two aims: 1) the permanent and world-wide elimination of chemical weapons by the destruction of all existing stock; and 2) the prevention of new chemical weapons emerging.
