HTM and the Municipality of The Hague are testing out a new system of announcing information in Dutch and English in the trams and buses at certain stops. The trial began on 18 July.
Many international tourists and residents make use of HTM's public transport system. The English announcements are intended to assist international travelers in finding their way to interesting buildings, cultural sites and points of interest in The Hague.
This trial includes 40 stops. The stop and additional information in English will be announced as 'hospital' or 'station' and information will be given about specific buildings and nearby attractions such as 'shopping centre’ or ‘theatre’.
The experiment started in mid-July and will last until the end of October 2011. The project began in HTM trams and buses. RandstadRail will also get English announcements once its new timetable takes effect in August.
You can let HTM know what you think about this project by sending an email to lans@htm.net.
Your recommendations will be used to evaluate the trial and will help to decide whether to end this initiative or whether HTM will continue to improve this service even more.
