Mayor Van Aartsen will be visiting the Indian cities of New Delhi and Mumbai from 6 to 10 December.
One of the major reasons for the trip is the special relationship between India and The Hague. More than 10% of The Hague’s residents can trace their roots back to India. The mayor is also promoting The Hague as the International City of Peace and Justice.
During his trip, the Mayor will be speaking with Karan Singh, president of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, E. Ahamed, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of External Affairs, and Kapil Sibal, Minister of Human Resources and Development.
The Mayor will be talking with these Indian officials about The Hague Institute for Global Justice, the knowledge institute that opened its doors in The Hague on 10 June, as well as the important role the city’s large Surinamese-Hindustani population plays in The Hague.
Mayor Van Aartsen will also call attention to the Rotterdam-The Hague Metropolitan Region as a prime hub for the Indian business community in Europe, and he will discuss opportunities to work together in the area of vocational training.
