Celebrate the most beautiful day of your life in the municipality of The Hague.
When two people enter into marriage, they confirm their love for each other and their acceptance of the law. When people get married, they lay down their relationship rights by law, for example in terms of pension and inheritance. A marriage also means that the two individuals promise to take care of each another.
In the Netherlands you get married with community property by default. This means that you jointly own all your possessions with your husband or wife. Would you prefer to specify marital conditions? Then you can have a civil law notary draw up a marriage contract.
If you plan to get married, you first need to register this intention. This is called notice of intent to marry.
Anyone of adult age may get married. People of the same sex are also allowed to marry each other.
You can read all about it under Notice of intent to marry.
You submit a request to get married through a notice of intent to marry. You need to do this at least two weeks before the intended date of the wedding. You need to make an appointment for this. You can do so in person at one of the sub-municipal offices. Or online via Ons Haagse Huwelijk.
