The Hague is increasingly becoming a location for companies and organisations working in the area of water management as can be seen by the recent move of the International Water Association (IWA) to a larger office space.
The British IWA has expanded in two years’ time from nine to 22 staff members and therefore has outgrown its office on the Bezuidenhoutseweg. The IWA recently moved to a larger space in the Bellevue office building next to The Hague’s Central Station.
Convincing the IWA in 2007 to locate its home base and executive office in The Hague was the first concrete result of resolutions made by The Hague and Delft to form an international water cluster. The Hague serves as a base of operations in the area of water rights and Delft has a strong position in water and delta technology.
To this end the International Water House was created on the Bezuidenhoutseweg, a building with shared office space including for start-ups in de water sector. The Department of International Affairs at the Municipality of The Hague facilitates these activities.
The IWA chose The Hague In 2007 at the advice of the WestHolland Foreign Investment Agency (WFIA) in cooperation with the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA).
The International Water Association is the global network of 10,000 water professionals spanning the continuum between research and practice and covering all facets of the water cycle. The IWA network is structured to promote multi-level collaboration among its diverse membership groups to create innovative, pragmatic and sustainable solutions to challenging global water needs.
The WestHolland Foreign Investment Agency (WFIA) serves as the ‘one-stop shopping’ desk for the WestHolland region to assist and advise international companies on locating and staffing their operations in the WestHolland region.
WestHolland is the name given to the western region of the Netherlands and includes the cities of Delft, The Hague, Lansingerland, Leiden, Rijswijk, Zoetermeer as well as the surrounding communities.
