The Kompasbuurt in Scheveningen has been designated an ideal residential area for professional beach volleyball players. Vestia Den Haag Scheveningen, Nevobo (NTC Beachvolleybal) and Den Haag Marketing (The Hague Convention & Visitors Bureau) have signed an agreement to make vacant apartments available to the athletes.
Den Haag Marketing and Nevobo will select the athletes and the three partner will also work towards promoting sport in the neighbourhood, which is located between the Keizerstraat and the harbour.
The first resident of the neighbourhood, Madelein Meppelink from Beach Team Holland, is enthusiastic about her new home. ‘A really great initiative offering only pluses. I live only 100 metres from my trainings. I’ve already met my neighbours, nice people, and I can’t wait to start playing sports with them.’
In 2008 and 2009 18 professional athletes moved to The Hague so that they could more easily combine their sport career with their personal life. The players live all over The Hague. Living in Scheveningen, close to the training locations, is essential for making this intense combination of daily life and sport as successful as possible. The Kompasbuurt is only a stone’s throw away from the indoor beach volleyball court and The Hague Beach stadium.
The initiative Haags Goud aims to increase the reputation and visibility of professional sport in The Hague. Visit the website of Haags Goud for more information.
