To obtain a short-stay visa for the Netherlands, visitors to the country sometimes need a so-called guarantor’s declaration (letter of invitation), or proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation.
Are you expecting visitors from abroad? Any foreign visitors who need a short-stay visa for the Netherlands usually need a guarantor’s declaration as well.
A guarantor’s declaration means that a relative, friend or acquaintance in the Netherlands agrees to bear any costs resulting from the foreign visitor’s stay in the country. The completed declaration is then sent to the person abroad.
A completed guarantor’s letter enables foreign visitors to apply for a Dutch visa at the Netherlands embassy in their home country.
Applications are processed by the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) and any further questions must be addressed to the IND (tel. 0900 123 45 61). Visit the website of the IND for exact instructions on how to apply.
You can legalise your signature for the guarantor's declaration at the Municipality of The Hague (provided you are a resident of The Hague). Read all about it under Legalisation of signature.
