Published: 22 December 2011 Modified: 31 January 2012

The European School of The Hague will be housed in a building on the Houtrustweg. This is the end result of the search conducted by the Municipality of The Hague and Stichting Het Rijnlands Lyceum over the last few months. The school will start up operations on 20 August 2012.

European School

The building on the Houtrustweg is currently being used by ROC Mondriaan. It will be vacated as of 1 April 2012 when the MBO courses offered there will be transferred to a new ROC Mondriaan building in Leidschenveen.

European schools are for the children of members and officials of European institutions, bodies and agencies: Europol and Eurojust in The Hague, the European Patent Office in Rijswijk and ESA-ESTEC in Noordwijk. The school will be situated at the edge of The Hague’s International Zone where many international organisations are located.

The European School in The Hague will be financed by the Netherlands Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Municipality of The Hague. The educational programme will be offered by Stichting Het Rijnlands Lyceum. The European Union will pay the tuition for children of European officials.

The European School of The Hague will start up operations in August 2012 with the first two years of nursery education (age 4 and 5) and one first grade class (age 6). Other primary school grades will be added in subsequent years. The school’s secondary school programme will start in 2014.

The European School of The Hague will be operated by Stichting Het Rijnlands Lyceum, which operates four Dutch secondary schools and two primary schools in the region of The Hague and Leiden, including the International School of The Hague.

There are a total of 19 European schools in Europe, including the one in The Hague.
