From 15 May to 1 October dogs are permitted at only a few spots on The Hague’s beaches. In order to give dog owners the chance to enjoy the beach with their dogs during the summer months, several sections of the beach have been designated a free-run area.
Everyday and during the entire day
In addition, dogs are welcome on the entire Zuiderstrand between 21.00 and 7.00 hrs!
Everyday and during the entire day from the end of the Zwarte Pad until the border with Wassenaar.
There are signs indicating the sections of the beach where dogs are welcome. Here they are allowed to run around unleashed. Dog poop, however, must be cleaned up, just as in the rest of the city.
Dogs are prohibited from other parts of The Hague’s beaches in the summer months. The municipality is trying to eliminate any nuisance from dogs for seaside visitors during the busy summer months. Signs indicate this ban on dogs and the ban is in effect 24 hours a day including during the night.
Dogs are welcome everywhere on the beach from 1 October to 15 May. Even then dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets and they are obliged to carry a pooper scooper. Dog poop may be disposed of in a regular rubbish bin. Municipal surveillance teams will check whether visitors to the beach are abiding by the rules.
In addition to the beach, there are many other areas in The Hague where dogs may roam freely. You can find this information and more by visiting our section on Dogs.
