Conductors on Tram 1, 11, 12 and 17

Published: 30 June 2011 Modified: 14 May 2012

Starting 1 July conductors will be deployed in Tram 1, 11, 12 and 17. Tram 9 and 16 already have conductors.

The municipality is expanding the number of tram lines with conductors because research has shown that Tram 9 and 16 have become safer since conductors were put in place there. Fare-dodging has been reduced by 22% to 3.3%. The conductors can be found on many trams of these lines between 18.00 hrs. until the trams finish their daily service.

The municipality is investing € 2 million in extra conductors. They will work in pairs and ride on the tram each day from 17.30 to 1.30 hrs.

They may check if passengers have a valid ticket, sell tickets and clamp down on anti-social behaviour. They are, however, not allowed to make arrests. In the event of an emergency, they may call upon a team of special detectives who can arrive within minutes.
