Children's hospital to use hypnosis

Published: 30 August 2010 Modified: 05 October 2010

The Juliana Children's Hospital in The Hague is to start using hypnosis in an effort to reduce pain, stress and fear among patients, the AD reports on Monday.

Hypnosis will only be used if children and parents agree to the treatment but doctor Madelon Ruige told the newspaper children are receptive to the idea.

Amsterdam's Slotervaart Hospital occasionally uses hypnosis, which led to questions in parliament last year.

The newspaper says hospital research carried out in 2007 showed that 85% of children with mysterious stomach pains saw their symptoms clear up with hypnosis. But only 25% of children given medicine got better.
