Help track down suspects and missing people in The Hague. Sign up to become part of the crime-fighting Burgernet system.
The Burgernet system enables the police and municipality to notify Hague residents when a crime is committed or a person is missing. The system is activated after a break-in or missing child is reported. Citizens participating in the Burgernet will get a voice or text message on their telephone with a request to be on the lookout a certain person or vehicle. Citizens are encouraged to use the system to inform the police if they witness anyone involved in the crime or the missing person.
Scheveningen, Loosduinen, Segbroek and Leidschenveen-Ypenburg are the four city districts where the Burgernet system is active. The other districts will follow suit later this year.
Burgernet is the successor to SMS-Alert. This new system allows the police to send messages via the telephone (landline and mobile) and email. It therefore reaches a larger group of residents. SMS-Alert worked only with text messages.
You can register for Burgernet if you are 16 years and older. You can use the registration form to indicate how you would like to be notified: by telephone and/or SMS and/or email.
You can find more information on Burgernet at www.burgernet.nl. You can also phone: (070) 424 33 94.
