Building plans for HagaZiekenhuis area to go ahead

Published: 27 August 2011 Modified: 20 September 2011

The Hague Municipal Executive (college van burgemeester en wethouders) has approved the urban planning for new construction around the HagaZiekenhuis on the Leyweg and Escamplaan.

The plan calls for the hospital’s expansion, the realisation of a health square, the development of some 740 homes and different parking facilities with a total of 2,100 parking spots. The municipality has entered into a cooperation with the HagaZiekenhuis and the OntwikkelingsCombinatie Leyenburg (OCL), a joint venture between Vestia and Proper-Stok (a subsidiary of Heymans N.V.).

The urban planning makes it possible to expand the HagaZiekenhuis, including a new building for the Juliana Kinderziekenhuis and an extension for the Emergency Department. The plan also provides space for approximately 740 new homes and 2,100 parking spots.

A health square with health-related facilities such as a dental practice, physiotherapy practice, children's day care, shops and a new and larger pharmacy. This should all result in an optimal combination of care and housing for the entire region. Construction should start in 2013.

Stages

The urban planning will be carried out in stages. The location has been divided up into five areas which will be developed independent of each other. An application for a building permit has been submitted for the construction of a new Emergency Department and Apotheek Haagse Ziekenhuizen.

Planning

A public meeting will be organised by the HagaZiekenhuis, Apotheek Haagse Ziekenhuizen, Municipality of The Hague and OCL on Wednesday, 14 September. The public is welcome to submit their comments (inspraak) on the plan.
