Beach Express to Scheveningen

Published: 13 May 2013 Modified: 01 November 2013

Starting in May the Beach Express (Strandexpress) tram starts up again. This special tram runs every Sunday from P+R Hoornwijck directly to Scheveningen beach. The travel time is around 30 minutes.

A return ticket for the Beach Express, including parking, is just € 2 and is good for up to 4 people. The tram departs every 10 minutes between 10.00 and 20.00 hrs. The P+R is located on the Laan van Hoornwijck in The Hague and is signposted on the A4, A12 and A13.

You can also easily reach the beach from P+R Hoornwijck on other days of the week as well. Take Tram 15 from the park-and-ride facility to either the Hollands Spoor train station or The Hague’s Central Station. There you can switch to a tram or bus to Scheveningen. The travel time varies depending on your connections.

‘Uit-je Auto’ app

When large-scale events are held in The Hague and Scheveningen and on beach days, the city hopes to make more use of private parking lots at office buildings. The experimental ‘Uit-je Auto’ (Out of your car) Park and Ride app has proven such a success that the service will likely be expanded.

With the ‘Uit-je Auto’ app visitors to the city’s events are directed to a parking spot at the World Forum (800 spots), Madurodam (350) or the Ministry of  Infrastructure and Environment (200). From these parking areas visitors can travel by tram or bus to the event.

You can download the free ‘Uit-je Auto’ app for Androids and iPhones. The application will provide information about the parking spots, times and prices.
