More than eight years after proposing the first plans, the Louwman Museum will open its doors on 3 July 2010 following years of delays. The museum fulfils the Louwman family’s biggest dream: to exhibit one of the world’s finest automobile collections, the Louwman Collection, on the border between Wassenaar and The Hague.
The museum’s construction was delayed for years, mainly because of protests by area residents and nature lovers. They tried to use all legal means available to block the construction, but in the end hundreds of trees were nonetheless chopped down and an important natural area was lost.
The former Dutch National Motor Museum announced on 25 May that it finally had an opening date for its new museum in The Hague. In the meantime the first cars have already been transported in utmost secrecy from their location in Raamsdonkveer to their new home.
Visit the website of the Louwman Museum for more information.
