Usually the educational institute will furnish you with information about student housing prior to your arrival. A number of the schools of higher education also have bulletin boards where advertisements for rooms to let are posted. It is also an idea to peruse the bulletin boards at the neighborhood supermarkets.

You could also try to do a search on the Dutch website Marktplaats.nl under 'Huizen en Kamers' and then type in 'Den Haag'.

House hopping

In various neighbourhoods of The Hague there are houses and other buildings that will be torn down within a few years. Many of these homes are already vacant although they are still in a reasonable condition.

Are you between the age of 18 and 27 years? And are you living, working or studying in the Haaglanden area? Then you are eligible for a ‘house hopping’ home. The average rent of these homes is between €200 and €250 per month and is never more than € 366. You will get the key within 3 to 5 days. You can live in the home for at least 6 months but often this works out to be 2 years.

Visit the Househopping seciton on the website of Staedion for more information.

Ad Hoc Beheer works with the owners of empty properties to offer affordable short-term living accommodation for young professionals, workers and students. So-called 'guardians' get accommodation at a fraction of the cost that they would normally pay, and property owners get peace of mind, knowing that there are guardians in their property to deter squatters.
