In June The Hague attracted some 800,000 visitors to the city during The Hague Festivals.
The fifth anniversary of The Hague Festivals featured the most varied programming ever. As always The Hague Festivals ended with a big bang with the Parkpop music festival with top act Jamie Cullem.
Some of the individual festivals themselves attracted more visitors than in previous years. With a total amount of 45,000 visitors, the classical concerts of Festival Classique in the historic city centre were even more popular this year. The anniversary edition of Shopping Night was a big winner as well with 110,000 bargain hunters crowding into the shops in the city centre.
With an increase of 5,000 people, the PopHotSpot Summer Festival stage on the Grote Markt also attracted big crowds. Parkpop topped it all off. Thanks to the great weather and terrific line-up, 275,000 festival lovers found their way to Zuiderpark to listen to music while relaxing in the sun.
The Hague Festivals is becoming more varied every year. The festival month includes poetry, dance, photography, art, literature, different genres of music and even a spirit tasting event. In addition, the Night of the Refugee walk was added to the combination of festivals as well. About 450 people walked from Rotterdam to The Hague to raise money for backpack doctors in Birma.
The Hague Festivals was a month packed with cultural, musical and entertainment events for both young and old from 1 to 26 June 2011. Visit the website of The Hague Festivals for more information about this festival period.
