Report your move

You can report your move online or in writing. You will automatically be deregistered from your old address.

Report your move on time. A maximum of 4 weeks before and no more than 5 days after your move. Are you reporting your new address more than 5 days after your move? Then the date you reported the move will count as your moving date. This could, for example, have an impact on your allowances or study grant.

• You are moving within The Hague or you are moving to The Hague from another municipality in the Netherlands.
• You are 16 years or older.

Are you reporting the move for somebody else? This is allowed if you:

• are married or civil partners, living at 1 address and moving to the same address
• are reporting the move for an underage child and you are the parent, guardian or caregiver of the child
• are reporting the move for an adult child who is living at your address and is moving to the same address
• are reporting the move for a cohabitating parent who is living at your address and is moving to the same address
• are the guardian of a person who has been placed under guardianship
• are reporting the move for a new resident of a care facility or nursing home and you are the director of the facility
• have been given authorisation

Online

You can report your change of address online. You need the following information:

• your DigiD login information
• proof of your new address, such as a signed purchase deed or rental contract
• If you are going to move in with somebody, then you need permission from the main occupant (see the page Begin link: Proof of Occupancy, end link. ).

In writing

You do not have DigiD and you would like to report your move in writing? Print out the moving form, complete it and then send it to:

Include the following documents:

• a copy of an identity document (passport, driving licence or identity card)
• a copy of a proof of your new address, such as a purchase deed or rental contract with your signature 
• If you are going to move in with somebody, then you need permission from the main occupant (see the page Begin link: Proof of occupancy, end link. ).

At a municipal counter

Are you unable to arrange your move online or in writing? Or are there special circumstances? Then you might be able to visit the counter at one of the municipal offices. Begin link: Contact the municipality, end link. for assistance.

It can take up to 2 weeks before your new address is registered in the system.

• Are you moving within The Hague? Are you not yet able to be registered at your new address? Then you can Begin link: request a mailing address, end link. . 
• Is the person whose address you are using as a mailing address going to move? Change your mailing address. Read more on the page Begin link: request a mailing address, end link. .
• The municipality will provide your change of address to important organisations such as the Belastingdienst (Tax Administration of the Netherlands), pension funds, Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) and health insurance companies. • You can make a safe copy of your identity document with your mobile telephone or tablet using the KopieID app. Read more on the Begin external link: website of the Government of the Netherlands(External link), end external link..
• Are you reporting your move online? The confirmation email could end up in your spam folder. Look out for this. 
• You can go to Begin external link: MijnOverheid.nl(External link), end external link. to check whether your move has been registered.
• You can be registered at only 1 address. You register at the address where you most often spend the night.

Checklist for your move

For your move to or within The Hague you can use this checklist:

• Begin link: Affordable housing permit, end link. : are you going to rent a residential property from a private landlord with a rent of € 1116.85 per month? Then you need to apply for an affordable housing permit.
• Begin link: Parking permit, end link. : you can apply for a permit only once you are registered at your new address.
• Begin link: Welfare benefits, end link. (in Dutch): report your move on time.
• Begin link: Afvalpas, end link. : request an Afvalpas for the waste depots if the previous resident did not leave it behind.
• Begin link: Tax refund, end link. : you can perhaps apply for a tax refund for the waste tax, sufferance tax (mooring fee) or dog tax.
• Begin link: Environment and planning permit, end link. : apply for this if you are going to renovate or rebuild.

• Do you have ground lease (erfpacht)? Report your move to the ground lease department (afdeling Erfpacht) via email to Begin link: erfpachtadministratie@denhaag.nl, end link. .
• Are you moving to The Hague from another municipality? Then you can get free membership of Begin external link: The Hague Public Library(External link), end external link.. You will get a welcome letter from the municipality when you report your move. The letter contains a voucher for the library.
