Procedures for EU/EEA citizens

Published: 11 April 2013 Modified: 11 April 2013

If you are a citizen of the European Union (EU), EEA (European Economic Area) or Switzerland and if you are living in The Hague, you need to register in the Municipal Personal Records Database (GBA) of The Hague.

If you are working for a company or organisation participating in the highly-skilled migrants scheme (kennismigrantenregeling) of the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND), you can make an appointment at The Hague International Centre by sending an email to expatservice@denhaag.nl.

Otherwise you need to make an appointment at the Immigration Office by phoning tel. 14 070 (from abroad: +31 70 353 30 00) from Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 20.00 hrs. You can only make an appointment at the Immigration Office in The Hague if you reside in The Hague. If you live in one of the surrounding municipalities, for example Voorburg or Rijswijk, you need to contact your own municipality.

BSN

You will be registered in the GBA during your appointment. You will also receive a Burgerservicenummer (citizen service number/BSN) straight away along with a letter containing your registration details.

IND

Once you are officially registered in the GBA, you will also need to register with the IND. As proof of your registration you will receive an EU sticker in your passport. Please download and complete the Registration form for citizens of the Union (proof of entitlement to residency status) and take along the required documents.
