Residents and companies located in The Hague are liable for municipal taxes. The Hague levies municipal taxes via the Municipal Tax Department (Belastingzaken).
The Municipal Tax Department falls under the Department of Public Service.
The revenues from taxation are used for building roads, collecting and treating waste, maintaining waste incineration plants and other civic services that make The Hague a nice place to live.
The Municipal Tax Department imposes taxes and makes sure they are collected. The Department is also responsible for enforcing the Wet waardering onroerende zaken (Wet WOZ), or the Law on assessing the property value.
