The Hague will hand out the first batch of Hague Student Passes on 11 February at the Paard van Troje. Students studying in The Hague are warmly invited to attend this event, which starts at midnight. Don’t forget to take along your student ID.
The new free Hague Student Pass provides discounts to students on sporting and cultural activities and is meant for students attending the institutes of higher education in The Hague. The Municipality of The Hague hopes that the pass will make students feel more connected to the city.
According to Deputy Mayor Sander Dekker (Education), “It’s important for the future of our city as well as for our local economy that people who've enjoyed a higher education feel connected to The Hague. We are working to improve the quality of the educational programmes and student housing .And the Hague Student Pass clearly shows that the city has a lot to offer in terms of sport and culture.”
Some 3,000 passes are available until September 2010. All students attending the city’s universities of professional education will get a pass in the new school year.
Students can check the bilingual website www.dehaagsestudentenpas.nl for all kinds of special offers. The pass will enable them to use the public library facilities in The Hague for free until September.
The Hague Student Pass will be part of a pilot project until September 2010. During this phase the pass will tailor its offers to the students’ needs.
ACKU Cultuurbureau and The Hague Public Library are behind the initiative to launch the pass. The initiative is also supported by The Hague University, INHolland, Royal Academy of Art, Royal Conservatoire, Hotelschool The Hague, Fontys Hogeschool Pedagogiek and the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS).
