The Hague has an additional 23 car-sharing locations. There is increasing demand for car-sharing services as an alternative to privately held and rental cars. The number of reserved parking locations for carshares in The Hague has now been expanded to 91.
Car sharing represents a successful and sustainable alternative, particularly for city residents who don't drive enough to justify the expense of owning, licensing, insuring and parking a car.
Research by the biggest car sharing company in the Netherlands, Greenwheels, showed that an increasing number of Hague residents are joining a car sharing programme. It is an excellent alternative for people who don’t need a car everyday or as who occasionally need a 'second car'.
The number of Greenwheels members increased over the last months to 17.4 per auto. The maximum number of members is 15 per auto. In order to meet the growing demand and offer a better distribution of locations throughout the city, the municipality agreed to allow the company to create 23 new locations.
According to Jan Borghuis, Manager of Greenwheels: ‘Greenwheels has some 1,750 members in The Hague. We expect this number to grow even further and that we will welcome our 2,000th member in The Hague this year.’
