Storms and flooding over the last few days have caused at least € 9 million in damage in the Netherlands, according to the Interpolis insurance company.
An amount for the Province of Zuid-Holland (South Holland) alone is not known. There were thousands of reports of flooded cellars and basements. Hundreds of nurseries and market gardeners reported damage and in some cases their harvests were completely destroyed.
The fire brigade in The Hague region had its hands full Sunday evening with the damage caused by strong winds.
A total of 325 reports came in about storm damage, including 250 reports in The Hague region about falling trees and broken branches. Roofing and illuminated signs were also broken.
A falling tree on the Delfweg in Rijswijk hit the overhead contact wire for Tram 1. The tram was out of service for several hours.
