The City Region of Haaglanden is raising the subsidy for the purchase of a methane biogas-powered vehicle from € 1,000 to € 3,000. This measure applies to all residents and companies in the Haaglanden region.
Private individuals, companies and governments can make use of this subsidy measure. The subsidy for passenger cars has been raised to € 3,000 and also applies to leased cars. The subsidy for heavier commercial vehicles (as of 3,500 kg) ranges from € 8,000 to € 10,000.
Methane biogas (Groengas) is produced in the Netherlands from organic waste, manure and sewage sludge. Every natural gas-powered car can also use methane biogas. Some 600 vehicles are now using methane biogas in the Haaglanden region; participants in the programme include companies and municipalities with large fleets of vehicles and HTM buses.
Natural gas vehicles are more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly and release 75% less toxic soot. The City Region of Haaglanden says, ‘The more cars that are driving cleanly, the better it is for the air quality.’
