Tips for parking your bike safely and where to get it repaired.
The city’s manned bicycle lock-ups are managed by Biesieklette (click under Stallingen) with locations dotted around The Hague. The Hague's city centre has 7 different lock-ups (Spuiplein, Voldersgracht, Buitenhof, Prinsegracht, Grote Markt, Laan and Grote Halstraat) where you can park your bike for the day.
A number of the ticket offices for these bicycle parking facilities are quite special. From 1998 to 2008, artists, designers and architects were commissioned to design 12 of them. The one on the Prinsegracht (at the tram tunnel entrance) is a modern glass structure.
Biesieklette also rents out bicycle 'bins'. These are individual storage containers for your bicycle, rented out on a monthly basis.
A bicycle is an easy item to steal. Do not leave your bicycle unlocked and unattended, even for a short while. If you are parking your bicycle out in the open, use your bicycle lock, and then secure your bicycle with a chain lock to a fixed object such as a parking stand, a lamppost or tree.
A national bike registration scheme was put in place in early 2008. Keep a record of the registration number and make of your bicycle. To report stolen bikes, go to your nearest police station or report it at www.politie.nl/haaglanden.
With construction going on around Central Station, the municipality is removing bicycles not parked in the lock-ups, without any advanced warning. Bikes not parked in lock-ups will be removed and taken to a bicycle depot, where the rightful owners can reclaim them. If you are looking for a missing bike, it's advisable to stop by the Bicycle Depot Haaglanden.
Be sure to place your bicycle in a rack around Hollands Spoor or it may be mistaken for an abandoned bicycle and removed by the municipality.
Simply go to your local bicycle shop or the rental shops at Central Station and the Hollands Spoor train stations. You may even borrow a bike while yours is being repaired.
If you can’t get your bike to the shop, you could try calling the company Cycling Services (CYSE), which will carry out the work on the spot.
