Declaration on renewable heat

Declaration of intent signed on renewable heat

Published: 24 August 2009 Modified: 12 September 2011

Eight municipalities are participating in a project aimed at encouraging the use of renewable heat, such as geothermal energy, in the The Hague region.

On 28 May 2009 the ‘Hartverwarmend Haaglanden’ (Heartwarming Haaglanden) steering committee signed a declaration of intent to realise a ‘Contract for Heat in Haaglanden’. Municipalities which signed the contract agreed to share their experience and knowledge, to work together, to create a common budget and to formulate municipal policy to promote heating projects.

The steering committee started its work in March 2009. Aldermen from eight municipalities in The Hague region looked into whether it was possible to set up a regional heating company. This company would work on preserving the heat used in buildings and neighbourhoods in the The Hague region.

The main aim of the steering company is to promote new local (renewable) heating projects and to preserve existing heating systems so that they can be connected together in the future.

The eight municipalities in the steering committee include The Hague, Delft, Pijnacker-Nootdorp, Westland, Rijswijk, Midden-Delfland, Zoetermeer, Leidschendam-Voorburg and Stadsgewest Haaglanden.
