The Hague flies for AMREF Flying Doctors

The Hague's charity for a year

Published: 21 September 2011 Modified: 01 November 2011

For one year long the city of The Hague will be flying for AMREF Flying Doctors. A number of events will be organised throughout the year by the municipality, schools, companies, hospitals and organisations to raise money for a hospital in South Sudan.

Each year The Hague chooses a charity which dovetails perfectly with the city’s ambitions as ‘International City of Peace and Justice’. After UNICEF, the Netherlands Red Cross and War Child (for which it raised nearly € 600,000 in 2010), the city will now work to raise money over the coming 12 months for an AMREF Flying Doctors hospital in South Sudan.

Students will be trained as doctors there and the children’s department will be renovated. What makes this special is that many of the students are former soldiers.

The kick-off for ‘The Hague Flies for AMREF Flying Doctors’ was on 21 September with a performance by the popular jazz and soul singer Giovanca, ambassador for AMREF Flying Doctors, at Supermarkt on the Grote Markt.
