EBLIDA’s mission is to promote and defend the interests of the library, archive and information sectors and professionals working for European citizens.

The organisation works by lobbying at the European level and by encouraging and supporting lobbying at the national level. Policy issues on which EBLIDA concentrates include intellectual property rights, information society issues, professional education and culture.

The Bureau’s inaugural meeting was held in The Hague in June 1992 and since then EBLIDA has been pursuing its mission from its office in The Hague.
