Physiotherapist

Fysiotherapeut

Published: 25 August 2009 Modified: 04 July 2011

The physiotherapist provides advice, treats and provides guidance for problems with muscles, joints, posture and movement. For example, if you have back pain, have suffered a fracture or if you have a sports injury. You can also consult the physiotherapist with stress-related problems or respiratory problems.

Treatment from the physiotherapist consists of massage or exercises. They will also use various equipment to apply heat or vibration, for example, to the affected area.

Office Hours

Monday through Friday, usually between 8.30 and 17.00. You must have a referral letter from your doctor or specialist.

Choosing a Physiotherapist

You can choose your own physiotherapist. Addresses and telephone numbers are listed in the yellow pages or the telephone book and are available through the Royal Dutch Society of Physiotherapy (KNGF), tel: (033) 457 29 00. You can make the appointment yourself. The physiotherapist does not have consultation or office hours, so you must always phone ahead for an appointment.

Payment

Costs will vary depending on your insurance policy.

What to Bring

Don't forget to take your insurance card and a towel with you when you go to the physiotherapist.

The physiotherapist is bound by a confidentiality agreement.
