Parking fine

Published: 16 February 2012 Modified: 20 February 2012

If you neglect to purchase a paper parking ticket from the dispenser, if your time runs out on the ticket or if you park without a valid permit or a handicapped parking permit, then you will be charged a parking fine (naheffingsaanslag) for on-street parking.

This parking fine is officially called a naheffingsaanslag parkeerbelastingen in Dutch.

How much do I have to pay?

A parking fine for not purchasing a paper parking ticket at an automated dispenser costs € 54 plus the hourly rate applicable to the area in which you parked: € 0.50, € 1.70, €2.10 or €2.60.

Paying the parking fine

  • Cash payment: To pay the parking fine in person, take along the penalty letter or the acceptgiro payment transfer slip to one of the sub-municipal offices.
  • Payment by acceptgiro payment transfer slip: If you do not pay the parking fine in person, then you will automatically receive an acceptgiro payment transfer slip. You can also transfer the charges by electronic banking. Always state the payment reference and transfer the money to ING account 6927.

Payable to:
Municipality of The Hague
Director of Municipal Taxation
Postbus 19924
2500 CX The Hague

  • Payment via international bank transfer: To make an international money transfer, you will need a BIC (swift code) and IBAN number. You will not be able to use the acceptgiro payment transfer slip outside of the Netherlands. You will need to transfer the money through your bank. Please be sure to include the following information:

- the payment reference
- ING BANK BIC (swift) code: INGBNL2A
- IBAN NL42INGB0000006927
- Place: Amsterdam

What happens if I don't pay?

If you don't pay your parking fine within 14 days or if your car has a foreign registration and you've received a second parking fine, then your car will get a wheel clamp. If the outstanding parking fines aren't paid within 24 hours, then the car will be towed away.

Appealing a fine

If you do not agree with the parking ticket, you can appeal your fine (information in Dutch).
