The Hague, academic city by the sea

Published: 12 January 2012 Modified: 03 February 2012

There are almost 30,000 students and a tremendous diversity of study options in The Hague. These options range from the Royal Academy of Art to teacher-training courses, from public administration to modern dance, and from higher professional nursing training to communications.

Bachelor’s or master’s degree programmes, post-doctoral programmes, higher professional education or university education: The Hague’s got it all.

Of course, your study programme is important, but The Hague has a lot more to offer. The city is packed full of culture, sport and nature. There are innumerable museums, theatres and festivals; you can practise (almost) any sport you can think of in The Hague; or you can go for a convivial drink in one of the cafés or relax on one of the many terraces.

And The Hague has something no other Dutch city has: a fabulous beach! Only 15 minutes by bike or tram, and there you are with your feet in the sand.

Peace and justice

The Hague: International City of Peace and Justice, Royal Residence, and Seat of Parliament and Government. You will often bump into Dutch politicians around the Plein where the parliamentary buildings are located. And of course, you will also see the Queen riding through the city in her Golden Carriage on Prinsjesdag.

Festivals and events

Parkpop, Today's Art, Crossing Border, Koninginnenach, the City-Pier-City Run: these are just a few examples taken from The Hague’s overflowing festival agenda.

The Hague and your future

The Hague is home to many national and international organisations, big and small companies, ministries and other government bodies. So there are plenty of opportunities for a good job in our city after you finish your studies.
