Popular student neighbourhoods

With 500,000 residents, The Hague is the third largest city in the Netherlands. It may seem large, but in fact the city is pretty compact. You can ride your bike from the centre to the beach or to a number of the colleges in less than 15 minutes.

The Hague has 44 neighborhoods and eight city districts. Most students live in the Zeeheldenkwartier, Laakkwartier, Regentessekwartier and Bezuidenhout neighbourhoods.

Finding accommodation

There are several ways to arrange accommodation. For example, through your college's student housing department, housing corporations or private agencies. ‘Hospiteren’

If you’re looking for a room in a student residence, you’ll often have to do something called ‘hospiteren’ in Dutch. It means that you’ll be invited to come over and check out the room and get to know your potential new roommates, often together with other people who are looking for a room. The students who already live there decide who gets the room. You’ll often find these rooms through ads hanging in colleges or posted on the Internet.
