Council committees prepare for plenary Council meetings by discussing the decisions that the Municipal Council must take. A Council committee discusses the substance of issues that concern the Municipality of The Hague as a whole, such as employment, city planning, sport, welfare and traffic.

Committee members also discuss the policy of the Municipal Executive (College van B&W) and its implementation. The position taken by a party in such committees often determines how they vote in the Council.

There are six specialist committees and four special committees. A Council committee discusses the substance of issues that concern the Municipality of The Hague as a whole, such as employment, city planning, sport, welfare and traffic. Furthermore, every committee discusses issues that concern one or two particular municipal districts.

The committees are as follows:

  • Security, Public Administration and Finance + Segbroek
  • Social Development + City Centre and Leidschenveen/Ypenburg
  • Urban Development and City Planning + Haagse Hout
  • Social Affairs, Employment, Economy and International Affairs + Scheveningen and Loosduinen
  • Transportation and Environment + Laak
  • Youth and Citizenship + Escamp
