Chess tournament in the Atrium

Some 120 chess players from The Hague region will be able to take on top players Sergey Karjakin, Sergei Tiviakov and Anish Giri on Tuesday, 31 January.

The Russian Embassy, the Municipality of The Hague and the DD chess club will organise a simultaneous chess display in the Atrium of The Hague City Hall on 31 January.

Deputy Mayor Marjolein de Jong (Culture, City Centre and International Affairs) and Ambassador Roman Kolodkin will open the tournament at 16.45 hrs. Everyone is welcome to come and cheer the players on. The simul can be followed live via www.ambru-dd.nl.

Registration

Members of the Hague Chess Association (Haagse Schaakbond) can register through their club or through www.ambru-dd.nl. Players must have an Elo level lower than 2200 to be able to register.

Chess in The Hague

The event is being organised to promote chess in The Hague region. The three top chess players are from Russia. Tiviakov and Giri were both born there. Karjakin was born in Ukraine and recently acquired a Russian passport. They were in the Netherlands for the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in Wijk aan Zee.
