Modified Traffic Situation in City Centre

Traffic Circulation Plan

Published: 05 November 2009 Modified: 04 October 2011

The Traffic Circulation Plan (VCP) will take effect on 20 November 2009. A number of traffic routes in the city will change. Some streets will be closed off completely while others will become one-way streets.

These modifications are necessary in order to improve the flow of traffic to and on the Centrumring.

Closed routes:

  • The Spui route: Hofweg will be closed to motorcycles and mopeds between the Gedempte Gracht and Achterom.
  • The Stille Verkade – Lutherse Burgwal – Prinsengracht route will no longer exist. This route will be closed between the Lutherse Burgwal and Grote Markt. The Herderstraat, Nieuwe Molstraat (between the Paviljoensgracht and Boekhorststraat) and Paviljoensbrug will be closed to prevent traffic from entering the city centre that way.
  • The Elandstraat will become a one-way street between the Toussaintkade and Vondelstraat (in the direction of the Vondelstaat). The Veenkade will be closed. The Noordwal will remain a one-way street in the direction of the Prinsessewal.

Modifications:

  • The Maurtiskade – Elandstraat route will become one-way on the Elandstraat. Drivers are advised to use the Centrumring.
