Work started on the new boulevard Scheveningen at the end of 2009. More sand, a solid dyke and brand new boulevard, making Scheveningen safe, beautiful and ready for the future. The 2 km long project extends between Sealife and Harbour and is divided into four parts: A, B, C and D.
At the moment work is being done in the first 3 parts. Everyone can enjoy the new Scheveningen as from March 2013. Originally, the sub-areas would have been implemented in succession. Setbacks during the working activities in part A resulted in part A and B now being in progress simultaneously. There has been a recent decision to start on part C as well.
The project started with the broadening of the beach. A total of 2.6 million cubic metres of sand has been used for building up the beach. As a result of this, the Scheveningen coast between Harbour and Pier has been broadened out from 50 to 70 metres. In parts A and B (between the “Scheveningse Slag” and the terminal loop of tram 11) a 1 kilometre long dyke has also been constructed. Work on the dyke was completed in August 2011. The broad beach and the strong dyke ensure that Scheveningen is safe from the rising water for the coming 100 years.
Due to the delay in the first part of the project, there will still be work on the new boulevard, both in part A and B, until March 2012. The area between Sealife and the terminal loop of tram 11 is ready for the start of the 2012 beach season. The new design by architect De Solà-Morales will become more visible each week. Portions of the new boulevard are already being opened to the public in the meantime.
Work will also be performed between November 2011 and October 2012 between the terminal loop of tram 11 and the harbour (part C). That means that, until the completion of part A and B (March 2012), work will be performed over a distance of 1.5 km on the boulevard.
During the winter, visitors to the beach and the boulevard can reach this part of Scheveningen only via the pedestrian bridge at Seinpost or the Vissershavenweg. A temporary boulevard for pedestrians has been erected around the worksite.
The Strandweg is largely closed to car traffic. Only the section between the Vissershavenweg and the Harbour remains accessible. You can park there on the Noorderlijk Havenhoofd parking.

From March 2012 the work area will be reduced to 600 metres (between the terminal loop of tram 11 and the Vissershavenweg). Here the new design will also be quickly visible.

As from June 2012, the road section will be opened for all traffic. That means that vehicles can drive from the Scheveningse Slag to the harbour. The parking spaces will then also be available in that section. This makes it possible to commence with work in part D (where a number of parking spaces will be lost).

From July 2012 until September 2012 no work will be performed. Annoyance to the public in the summer of 2012 is therefore reduced. As from July 2012, a part of the new boulevard in part C will be opened to pedestrians.

After the summer of 2012 until March 2013, the final stretch of the boulevard will be tackled. Part D, the section between the Vissershavenweg and the harbour, will get a new design. Everyone will be able to enjoy the new boulevard of Scheveningen in the spring of 2013.
